You should arrive at Dulles International Airport (IAD) or Reagan National Airport (DCA) at least one day before your program start date.

After you book your travel plans, submit your flight details online so we know when to schedule your airport transfer. We need to receive your flight details at least 72 hours prior to arrival in order to confirm your transportation from the airport.

We will provide transportation at no extra cost from Dulles International Airport (IAD) and Reagan National Airport (DCA) to any new students arriving on August  15th to August 16th.

Students who do not check in for online Orientation on August 17th will be charged a $250 late fee. If for some reason you cannot arrive or check in online by then, please contact the INTO Mason team as soon as possible at

As an international student, you're required to have an F-1 student visa to study in the US. Additionally, you must have a valid passport in order to obtain an F-1 visa. Your passport must be valid for at least six months at all times while living in the US.

  1. Obtain I-20 Certificate of Eligibility
  2. Pay the SEVIS I-901 fee
  3. Confirm passport expiration date
  4. Provide evidence of financial resources
  5. Schedule your visa interview

Schedule your visa appointment

You received an Immunization Record form via email with your offer of admission. This form must be completed in English and signed by a doctor before you arrive on campus. Submit your completed immunizations to Mason's Patient Portal here.

If you are younger than 18 years old, your parent or guardian must also sign the form.

You may receive required vaccinations from your local doctor or hospital before you leave your country. Please bring copies of your vaccination records, with English translations. If you do not have proof of immunizations when you arrive, you will need to schedule an appointment with Student Health Services through Mason's Patient Portal. English translations of your documents, you will receive any required immunizations during Orientation week.

Living on Campus

You should apply for on-campus housing as soon as possible to secure your spot. Once you have your housing assignment, you can check into your room starting Saturday, August 15th.

What to pack on the plane and in your suitcase

In your carry-on luggage, you should bring the following:

  • Valid passport with F-1 student visa
  • I-20
  • SEVIS I-901 fee payment receipt
  • Admission letter to INTO Mason
  • Original financial documents showing funds to support your studies
  • Original academic records
  • Medications and a copy of any prescriptions written in English
  • Cash to cover expenses for your first week, including books, about $500 USD
  • Any valuable items

In your suitcase, you’ll want to pack clothes for warm weather. The weather in August varies, but you can expect temperatures to vary between  27-30°C.

Attend Orientation

Please make sure you attend mandatory online Orientation. At the beginning of August, we will email you online orientation schedule. Events include:

  • Getting a Mason ID (If you are arriving in Virginia)
  • Taking the Versant English placement test
  • Taking a Math placement test (only applies if you are on the International Year One Program in Engineering, Computing and Statistics or Science Pathway)
